HRPBA Working Test - Gill Mill
The HPRBA would like to thank our host John Smith for allowing us to hold our test at Gill Mill at such short notice. The original ground at Northmoor was water logged due to the inclement weather of rain and more rain! Fortunately the day was dry and pleasant and the wet weather held off until the awards at 3.30 pm. Also, thanks to our sponsors, CSJ Specialist Canine Feeds and Bablake Wines Ltd.
The Puppy Tests consisted of hunting an area of thick grass by the sides of the lake which proved challenging to some. The retrieving tests consisted of a memory retrieve, obedience test of heelwork followed by a retrieve and a dummy from water.
Novice consisted of hunting acres of grassland, followed by a seen retrieve with the dummy landing behind a small spinney out of sight of the dogs. This was followed by a 60 yds. swim for a seen dummy which then had to be brought back to hand. The second retrieve was a 70 yds. blind with a shot fired along an overgrown track.
The first test in the Open was the water where the dogs had to navigate a fast flowing ford and on to a track on the opposite side for a blind dummy retrieve. Hunting again was in acres of grassland and the second retrieve consisted of a shot fired and the dummy thrown out of sight of the dog behind a roundel at a distance of 100yds. One retrieved a second dummy was thrown into the same area while the dog was coming back to its owner. Once this dummy was presented the dog was then sent for the second.
Tests were set by A Panel judge Mark Firmin who was assisted by Larry Wilks. The Open and Novice were based on retrieves which simulated those on an average rough shooting day.
The HPRBA would also like to thank competitors for their support and sportsmanship and for making the day such a very pleasant and exciting one.

Your dog food is a blessing!
We tried all the expensive foods in an attempt to help our bearded collie who suffered terribly from loose bloody stools. Nothing worked until we tried your food for sensitive tums. She has never been better.
So not only are we saving on dog food, but also on vet bills!
Thank you from Michelle and Milly the Beardie.
